Free To Use Music
Free To Use Music is a record label releasing and promoting no copyright music / royalty free music / background music / free to use music for your monetized UGC (User Generated Content) on social media platforms like YouTube, Instagram, Twitch, and Facebook. Before using any of the music on our YouTube-channel, we highly recommend you read the FAQs down below, to better understand the whole world of free to use music and how it works.
Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Can I use the music from the Free To Use Music YT-channel in my videos?
Yes, as our name indicates, you are free to use the music in your monetized UGC (User Generated Content) on social media. BUT you must give the artists appropriate credit (read how to correctly credit the artists down below). If you do not give the artist appropriate credit and the artist finds your video, then he/she will most likely report your video and file a copyright claim against you – which could result in a strike on your YT-channel… So please remember to credit the artists correctly!
How to legally download the music?
- In order to download the music you must be on a PC – downloading will not work on mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.
- Then you will need to find the music track you want to download on our YouTube-channel.
- Scroll down into the description of the video and find the place where it says ‘Free Download’ – underneath this text there will be a download link provided by the original artist.
- Click on this download link – you will now be taken to a new page (most likely a download gate like Toneden.io or Hypeddit.com). Here you will usually need to follow the artist on e.g. SoundCloud or Spotify. This way the artist also gets something in return by being able to grow his/her following, and we think this is a quite fair deal for both parts.
If you want to make sure that you get the absolute highest quality audio file, and or maybe you for some reason do not want to go through a download gate and have to follow the artist, then you will find a direct download link just above the free download link (on all music tracks posted in 2021 and later).
In order to access these direct download links you will need to become a channel member by clicking the JOIN button right next to the subscribe button. Once you’ve become a channel member, then you will be able to download music through the direct download links. When clicking on a direct download link you will be taken to an exclusive community post only visible to channel members – here you will another direct download link to the music track on google drive. Click on this link and the music track will be downloaded in the highest quality audio format right onto your computer.
After you’ve downloaded the music then it’s of course completely okay to cancel your channel membership, BUT we do certainly hope that you would like to support us and stay as a member for more than a single month!
How do I correctly credit the artist(s)?
Different artists often want to be credited in different ways. Some artists have a website explaining how they want to be credited – like this one (https://liqwydmusic.wordpress.com/). If an artist has a website like this one, then we always leave a link to it in the description of our video, so you can easily see how to correctly credit the artist.
BUT a lot of artists do not have a website explaining how they want to be credited. So here is a general guide on how to credit the artists correctly when using their music for free.
Example of how to correctly credit artists on social media platforms like YouTube & Facebook.
– Write this in the description of your video:
Music by ‘Artist name’
‘Social media links’
Example of how to correctly credit artists on social media platforms like Instagram.
– Write this in the description of your video:
Music by @’artist’s Instagram’
*IMPORTANT* It is not necessary to credit us, but if you like what we do, then we would really appreciate if you’d leave a link to our channel YouTube-channel (https://www.youtube.com/freetousemusic) in the video description as well or tag us on Instagram @freetousemusic – we love to see your videos! 🙂
If you don’t want to have to credit the artist, then you’ll have to buy a license directly from the artist. Most artists have a contact form on their website, but otherwise it should be possible to find an email or contact them on their social media accounts.

Can I use the music for commercial use or projects outside of social media?
Some of the music tracks on our YT-channel are free to use for commercial use, but with most of the tracks you’ll have to buy a license from the artist. In order to know if a track is free to use for commercial use, you will have to check the description of the video or contact the artist directly.

What is the difference between copyright free music, royalty free music, and no copyright music?
Copyright free music, royalty free music, and no copyright music are basically just three different words/terms for the same thing. However, these three terms are quite misleading, because all the copyright free music, royalty free music, and no copyright music is actually copyrighted, but the artists give people permission to use the music for free in their user generated content on social media platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. Therefore the most correct word/term for this kind of music is actually Free To Use Music.
I got a copyright claim on my video, what do I do?
First you need to figure out the reason why you got a copyright claim on your video. Make sure you have credited the artist correctly – we have explained how to correctly credit the artist in a question above. If you have credited the artist correctly, then it could be a fake copyright claim. If the copyrighted content does not match with the name of the music track you used in your video, then it is most likely a fake copyright claim… We made a video (https://youtu.be/gfp3s__PpzU) explaining very detailed what a fake copyright claim is and why it happens, and we also explain step by step what to do in order to get the claim removed from your video.
Who legally owns the music on the Free To Use Music YT-channel?
Most of the music on the Free To Use Music YT-channel is legally owned by the independent artists themselves. The music has been submitted to us through our Google Form by the original artists, which ensures that we have all the rights to upload and monetize the music on the Free To Use Music YT-channel. In addition it also ensures that you’re free to use the music in your monetized UGC (User Generated Content) on social media as long as you credit the artists on their terms and conditions.
Free To Use Music releases are different. We own exclusive worldwide rights to all the official FTUM releases. This ensures that the FTUM releases will stay free to use FOREVER. So the artists cannot change their minds in for example 5 years and then start copyright claiming your videos. The official Free To Use Music releases are labeled FTUM Release in the title of the video.
Can I upload the music on my own “copyright free music” YT-channel?
No this is absolutely NOT allowed. The music on the Free To Use Music YT-channel is meant to be used by content creators as background music for their videos. It is very illegal to upload the music as “standalone” on your own YT-channel without permission from the original artists. If we find YT-channels who re-uploads the music from our YT-channel, then we will ask the artists to file a copyright claim against them saying that they infringe their copyright. This will result in the YT-channel getting a copyright strike, and if a channel gets 3 of these copyright strikes, then YouTube will take down the YouTube-channel… And ultimately you could be sued by the artists for doing this..
Frequently asked questions for artists (FAQs)
Why should I release my music as free to use?
The main reason why artists choose to release their music as free to use is because they want to grow their audience/following. There are two aspects of this.
Firstly, when artists get their music promoted on the Free To Use Music YT-channel it is listened to by thousands of people. Many of these listeners are content creators looking for music for their videos, and therefore they will need to download the music. That’s why we always have a download link in the description of our videos, and these download links are always provided by the artists themselves. Many of our artists use services like Toneden or Hypeddit to create download gates, where people will need to follow them on their social media accounts before being able to download their music. This way our artists are able to grow their social media following on platforms like YouTube and SoundCloud VERY quickly!
Secondly, when the thousands of content creators use the music in their videos, then all of their millions of followers (yes we do have a lot of subscribers who are content creators with more than a million subscribers on YouTube) will get to listen to your music. We have seen this happen a lot of times where music tracks on our YT-channel have blown up because they have been used by popular content creators in their videos.
How do I get my music released on the Free To Use Music label and/or promoted on the Free To Use Music YT-channel?
First of all you need to produce good high quality music. Then the next step is to submit your music. The ONLY way to submit your music is through this form (https://goo.gl/forms/GC9HkP0jyCyAj34y1). We will not accept or listen to any music that we get sent on email or social media.
We get a lot of music submissions everyday, and we listen to every single one of them, but we cannot release / promote all of the music. If you’ve submitted a track through our Google Form, and you haven’t heard anything from us, then don’t worry. We are keeping an eye on you and we also really like when artists have produced more than a single good track, so please keep producing more music and keep submitting it to us.
How do I know you have received my submission?
If you have filled out everything correctly, then you should get a confirmation message at the end saying “Thanks for submitting your music!”.
Do you only promote specific music genres?
No, we do not only promote specific genres. We really want to have as many different music genres on our YT-channel as possible, so feel free to submit all kinds of music.
